I'll Drink To That
Cocktails are as much a part of the menu as the food we serve. They not only help to set the tone for an event but selecting the perfect cocktail to feature at a gathering also serves to break the ice, inspiring conversation and helping your guest to get to know each other.
These are some of my favorite cocktails and when they fit into my hosting.
The French 75
Perfectly elegant and powerful this mix of gin and lemon simple syrup topped with champagne and a twist of lemon was the signature drink at the Audrey Hepburn themed bridal shower I hosted for my sister.
The drink dates to World War I. The combination was said to have such a kick that it felt like being shelled with the powerful French 75 Field Gun.
Being a self-proclaimed “salty girl” my mouth waters just thinking about it. This is my Thanksgiving morning drink. Each year we host a large group at my Mother's house for Thanksgiving. For the 3 days leading up to the feast my mom, my sister and I spend full days and into the evening chopping onions, drinking wine, making dressing, drinking wine, injecting turkeys and drinking wine. By the time Thanksgiving morning arrives and it’s time to Give Thanks a Bloody Mary is just what we need to as my brother-in-law says “get your head right”.
This is just my speed. Pimm's No 1, ginger ale or lemon lime soda, garnish with a cool cucumber is the perfect concoction for a hot summer day on the porch or laying on the beach.
Dirty Vodka Martini on the Rocks, Shaken
My all time favorite and go to cocktail.
Shake your favorite top shelf vodka with olive juice to taste (I like mine just shy of filthy) with ice and pour over more ice into your best rock glass.
Perfect anytime after 4. So... What time is it?
